NY advice, where to stayPossibly planning a trip to manhattan and was wondering if there are any recommended areas for first time visit. We have found 2 places in both East Village and Flatiron District. Does it really matter in Manhattan where you stay? thank!

Been a few years since I visitedbut last time I stayed in a nice little hotel on 29th and Park Ave called the Deauville Hotel. It's quite close to the Empire State and Time square and not too long a taxi drive to the East Village if you want to get your Hipster on. The hotel is where Sid Vicious stayed after being kicked out of the Chelsea after a fight with Nancy. We actually stayed in the same suite he did. Also the lift or Elevatoooor as they call it is Hand operated. The receptionist is quite the dab hand at landing right at each floor. we tried ourselves and ended up with a bit of climbing I miss NYC

does it really matter?imho no, unless u avoid the rough bits. the subway will get u quickly anywhere and the taxi is much cheaper than it is anywhere in Europe, if that's what u fancy.

Walking can work too but I find you can only cover certain parts. f.e. the last time i stayed on 102nd and i walked the 50 blocks to my work easily in the space of 30 minutes, but if you'd want me to go to chinatown or the village from there i would have been screwed on foot.

i used to use this place.

they are great, near to Radio City Music Hall

have fun!
