newsletter - july 2002 (no. 1)

what a week... hate to start off with an 'unfortunately' but unfortunately we have had to pull the gigs in slovakia, amsterdam and germany due to internal combustion of various organs. we are dreadfully sorry as we HATE to cancel anything gigs-wise, specially at this late stage - but colm especially needs to be sitting still for a little while to be fighting fit for future engagements. he is ok but needs some rest - them bloomin lungs arent doing as theyre told again... we shall have them under control though and ready to rock as soon as humanly possible...

on a fortunate note - i will have the live cd 'breadcrumb trail' in my hands imminently and if you want one this is the score. please send cheques or postal orders made payable to 'the frames' at The Frames, Po.box 8905, Dublin 6, Ireland. when we receive your chq we will send out the goods... they are to be 15 euros for all countries european - that will include p&p and 16 euros for the rest of the world to include p&p also. we will obviously be as speedy as possible with your orders - but this is a kind of new venture for us doing it just through the site - so please bear with us...

the cd features some live recrodings of the frames, made in a club called the staré pekárne in brno, czech rep + 2 bonus tracks of glen solo recorded elsewhere. the tracklisting is as follows : lay me down, what happens, rent day, fitzcarraldo, giving me wings, ohio riverboat song, santa maria, mighty sword, red chord, new partner - + look back now and star star. as it is a bona fide release in cz and slovakia we are making it available to the rest of the world via the website. i will also be putting some in road records when they come in which should be towards the end of next week - but ill put up a post on the site as to when exactly so dave and julie in road dont get harrassed too much... there will be enough to go round - fret not.

big THANK YOU to marek (and family) in valmez for making this cd happen so beautifully AND for all the work put into the recent tour in your homelands. also same big THANKS to joe streibl in austria for some tremendous gigs and experiences... to the austrian police for being soooooo cool... to miro in slovakia and jens and cristel and family for introducing us in the first place to such an amazing part of the world... nice one too that all you frames folk came to see us from ireland/england... hope you get home safely... specially you berny...

other stuff -
Independent Records come up trumps again with the release of Kicking Against… on 5th July 2002.
Kicking Against is a 12-track celebratory collection of Ireland’s most innovative and interesting artists – from David Kitt, The Last Post and The Frames to Warlords of Pez, Creative Controle and The Redneck Manifesto. The enhanced CD includes 2, by now classic videos from Warlords of Pez and Creative Controle and a bunch of versions which are exclusive to the release (The Frames, David Kitt and Richie from The Redneck Manifesto’s new side-project, Jape have all contributed tracks, or versions of tracks, which have never been made available before).
