newsletter - november 2001 (no. 1)

hey ho...

here we go again... so just finished a beautiful and emotional run of gigs in ireland - thanks to everyone who came out to make them ALL very special/interesting in their own ways. a sad goodbye to dave odser last thursday at the savoy, and i know we all wish him well......in answer to all those that have been enquiring - the band will be looking for a guitarist at some point over the next few months, but in the meantime we are lucky enough to have found some great stand-ins to help out on the gigs over the next wee while. i dont know exactly when or how we are going to be recruting, but if you feel your the new axe man/woman then why not drop me a line and i can keep you in me 'new guitarist' folder for when we do start looking proper...

this is the first leg of the touring for america. the plan is to come back to do the west coast very late feb/early march to end in texas at southbysouthwest on the 14-17 march... and from there, as we are half way round the world go to...

2 AUSTRALIA... for a bit of a touring schleck around. you MAY see glen on his own in late jan/early feb just before this march leg of australia to do some wind up shows - im just trying to stretch january out a bit and get a few more days out of it as 31 just arnt enough... its difficult though...

3 IRELAND a small mention for a gig with cluas.com (and a whole bunch of other artists) on the 22nd dec in whelans. more details when i have them. this is a charity gig for CONCERN.

from the press release "A special music event, You’re Kiddin’, in aid of the NSPCC, has just been announced for 21st December 2001 in Mandela Hall in Belfast. Hosted by BBC Radio 1 and Channel 4 presenter Colin Murray, the event will feature Belle And Sebastian’s first ever performance in Northern Ireland with a full 13-piece line-up. Joining them for the night will be The Frames (who will be fresh back from a tour of the USA). Tickets for the event are severely limited and can include transport from Dublin to Belfast and back. Tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster" so dont say i didnt tell ya so...

31st dec theres a little bash im in the middle of thinking about for new years eve. it will be run over 2 venues in the shelter and vicar street and you will hopefully be seeing the world and his mother coming out to play on that night (if you were there last year - youll know the score). ive to sort out the ticket thing next week -so ill let you know when and how and how much the tix are. ill try to keep it as low as humanly possible - but as you all know by now - staff should be paid at least double when working nye... bear with me a little while longer on this one.

4 ENGLAND am thinking of getting the lads over from jan 19th to do a few shows where we can fit em in...probably, liverpool, manchester, leeds or york, london and maybe cambridge if we have the time... again - bear with me on this one and ill tell yous as soon as i have stuff confirmed...

4a from there, we might take a trip as a band out to austria and then on up to the czech republic - more details once ive got em on the road in america...

5 from the press release - "A special broadcast in memory of Uaneen Fitzsimons will be broadcast by RTE Network 2’s No Disco on 21st November 2001. Nearly a year to the day after a tragic car accident brought her life to a premature end, the programme will be a celebration of her, the music she loved and the boundless energy with which she brought that music to an ever-expanding audience. Meanwhile, the next evening 2FM will be broadcasting the live recording of the 'A Wee Night For Uaneen' show in the Olympia Theatre, Dublin (which took place on 4th March 2001). On air from 11pm-2am on 22nd November, the show aims to offer a full audio experience of the show as it was on the night, featuring a whole host of Uaneen’s friends in music paying tribute to her and her life" - definately worth while checking out methinks - it will feature paddy racey and glen handsome and the frames playing 'the whole of the moon' as well as tom barman doing little arithmetics and hotel lounge. it was a really splendid night for a very special lady.
